We aim to organize three workshops over the period of the research project. Participants from all partner countries will be invited and, when appropriate, leading international researchers and other experts in the relevant fields. The focus of the workshops will be on automatic record linkage, controlled vocabularies and metadata standards, and finally, crowdsourcing and citizen science.

Annual hackathons will be organized to bring together early-career researchers, post-docs and Ph.D. students from the humanities and social sciences with technical experts in programming, AI, and data science. Each event will focus on a particular Nordic country’s population data and its potential for national and transnational linkage.

Hackathon participants will be paired across disciplinary lines and receive preparatory materials introducing the data and methods.
They will spend five full days working collaboratively to develop original project ideas, guided by senior researchers and local data experts.

The first hackathon will take place in Denmark, followed by Finland. Subsequent hackathons will rotate among other partner countries.
